The Skandhas, or aggregates, are a foundational concept in Buddhism that describe the five components constituting human existence:

  1. Form (रूप Rūpa),
  2. Sensation (वेदना Vedanā),
  3. Perception (सञ्ञा Saññā),
  4. Mental formations (सङ्खार Sankhāra), and
  5. Consciousness (विज्ञान Viññāṇa).

These aggregates explain that what we consider "The Self" is a collection of changing physical and mental phenomena, rather than a permanent, unchanging entity. Understanding the Skandhas is crucial for recognizing the impermanent and interdependent nature of existence, thereby aiding in the reduction of attachment and the attainment of enlightenment.
